More and more students are opting to pursue their higher education in countries like Australia, China, UK, USA etc. Many feel that the educational courses or programs available in these countries are better structured and better suited than in their own countries. Some of these places also offer affordable and practical short term loans that a lot of people can avail of. While some feel, this is the best route to get a job in a country where the standard of living is much higher and better than in their own country.

Earlier it was very difficult to go abroad for further education but statistics have proved that more and more students are opting to go abroad. Definitely, it is easier because of the kind of financial assistance available today. You can have one of your relatives staying abroad sponsoring your education. Many banks and other financial institutions provide educational loans to students that can be repaid on getting a job. These loans are available at low rate of interest. You can even avail scholarships to finance your education, some scholarship amounts are so large that they are enough to cover your total costs including tuition fees as well as living.

In countries like USA, certain entrance exams are required to be given, depending on the level of education sought. For .e.g. SAT for undergraduate course or GMAT for business studies or GRE for postgraduate courses other than business. If you secure a good score in these entrance exams, the university grants assistance in form of scholarships to undergraduate students and RA/TA or research assistance or training assistance to postgraduate students. Many students even seek part time or full time jobs during the holidays just to earn extra income.

Going for higher studies abroad is also a very good opportunity for students for personality development. They become more independent, show an increased level of self-confidence, more matured, overall show an academic commitment, intercultural development and also show a marked improvement in expressing their desire.

For basic needs, a student has to communicate with others leading to a healthy social interaction. A student becomes more matured owing to the kind of circumstances and situations he/she might have to face during the course of the stay.

A lot of universities/schools/colleges offer courses that may not be available elsewhere. Studying subjects of varied interests only increases your growth academically, professionally and is a great resume builder. Now days, employers seek to employ people with a strong academic background and international influence.

The education pattern abroad also varies. In countries such as USA, a student can mix and match their electives as per their preference. This allows them to perform well in every semester. Furthermore, education system is not limited to bookish knowledge. It involves a lot of case studies, practical, assignments which are engaging and interesting. It allows students to analyze and research their subject, adding to the knowledge.

Higher education abroad is beneficial to the host and the provider national economically. Host nation gains by providing education and the provider nation gains because most students return to their country. Countries benefit from skill sets of such people, their thinking, and methodology at work and so on.

An Introduction To The US Education System

How does the U.S. education system work? This information is essential if you are a student seeking to study in this country. Your knowledge or ignorance about the educational setup may not directly affect your studies. However, it may affect your ability to make good friends with fellow American students.

Knowing how the American education system works will help you fit in and make friends faster. US education is completely decentralized. The Federal government does not run any public school. It does not offer any national level curriculum. The maximum that it does is provide additional funding through programs and schemes. Apart from this, the actual task of running the education system is placed in the hands of the States.

The biggest advantage of this decentralized approach is that each and every state has the freedom of determining its policies based on its unique requirements. States that receive numerous foreign workers may wish to improve this educational system to compete with not just home grown but foreign talent as well. On the other hand, a state in the interior will not be exposed to the global order and can focus on its own requirements. It can structure its educational system to cater to its internal needs.

This education system has been repeatedly questioned on this point. The average American student is considered inferior to Chinese or Indian students. Whether this is true or not cannot be stated for certain. However, popular perception believes that the decentralized nature of the education system has worked to the disadvantage of the student community. In today’s globalized world, knowledge is power.

An informed and well educated student enjoys a head start over all others. It remains to be seen whether the education system will be reformed or whether this system is good enough to face future challenges of the fast changing global scenario.
